We use a course board instead of flags to inform the boats racing what race course their class is racing and the heading and distance to the windward (first) buoy.
Head 179 degs.
Dist .85 nm
Class 1 (racing) 1S, 2T, 1S
Class 2 (cruising) 2T, 1S
Class 3 (cruising) 2T
The board is saying; the heading to the first buoy (windward) is 179 degs.
The distance to the first buoy is .85 nautical miles.
Class 1 (which is always racing, the word racing will not be on the board) is to sail a race course of one sausage, then two triangles, and finish with a sausage. It is assumed the racing class will use a spinnaker if appropriate.
Class 2 (all classes after Class 1 will be a cruising class, the word cruising will not be on the board) is to sail a race course of two triangles and finish with a sausage. If boats in the cruising classes use a spinnaker any time during a race they will have time added as appropriate for that race.
Class 3 is to sail a race course of two triangles.
