August Newsletter

Greeting and Salutations Sports Fans,
In less than a week we have another race scheduled.  The long range weather forecast is good.  Hopefully the third time is the charm and we can get our new one design fleet out there at the same time.  The Captains’ meeting will be at 9:00 am Saturday morning August 16 on the front porch of the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club.  There should be some new sailors there and maybe a ringer or two, so be there ASAP to check out the new talent. So call your crew and your competition and let’s shoot for a dozen boats this time.
There has been a lot of buzz about the “Fishing tournament”  but no one would pick a date, so Ben has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged everybody to a fish off on August the 23rd.  Here is the scary part, I had an idea.  We could revive the old Frying Pan shoals race.  We haven’t done it in a few years but here is what we use to do.  Start Friday evening about dust and sail to the Frying Pan Shoal light house then sail back. The new twist is we hang out around the tower, if it is still there, and fish, then sail back the next evening or on Sunday if you are having too much fun to leave.  The tower marks the end of Frying pan shoals and is on the edge of the Gulf Stream.  Rumor has it that there are bugs under the water so you might want to bring a tank and get wet. The Lat Lon for the tower is N 33.28.742 W 077.38. 128.  It is around 55 miles so it will take awhile to get there but the blue of the water is worth the trip.  We can talk about it more on Saturday.  So be there or be a four equal sided geometric shape.
Richard
